New Tottenham striker Carlos Vinicius must overcome a language barrier to settle at the club, but Son Heung-Min has revealed how his teammates are helping him. The Brazilian striker – who arrived on loan from Benfica in the summer – is not fluent in English, but Son himself knows the difficulties in learning new languages to communicate effectively with the rest of the squad.

Son Heung-Min said “They’re great guys and they all speak very good English, apart from Carlos, but everyone is trying to help Vinny, especially Lucas [Moura] and Gedson [Fernandes], who are in and around him. They want to work, they want to fight, they want to win, so it’s great to have them. They are good players and I’m enjoying working with them. We don’t even need to talk about their qualities because they have all played in the Premier League, La Liga, Champions League etc. They’ve all done fantastic jobs with their previous teams. Now I just want to help them bring their best to this club. They have all made an impact on the dressing room already. Even though Vinny doesn’t speak any English, he’s still so funny. I try to speak to him and, you know, it can be a bit awkward when you don’t speak the language I know this feeling from when I joined and didn’t speak any English. So because of that, I want to help where I can.”

Tottenham’s attacking partnership of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son was once again imperious in Sunday’s 3-3 draw against West Ham. Having raced until a 3-0 lead, Spurs then capitulated in the final ten minutes to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with just a point to show for their efforts. And now, many fans believe new signing Joe Rodon – an £11million addition from Swansea City – should be introduced into the starting line-up in future games. The Welshman arrives highly rated but he has missed the European registration deadline, so will only be available for domestic games.
