Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva believes the points tally to win this season’s Premier League will be lower than in recent seasons.

Bernardo Silva said “I think if you consider the current situation, a lot of players haven’t had much time off after the previous season, all the teams have strengthened their squads with good signings in the transfer market. I think all the Premier League teams are stronger this season and that’s good for the competition. It’s good to know that all the matches are going to be difficult now, no matter which teams are involved. We’ll have to work even harder this season to beat everybody. I think the Premier League became even more competitive this season. All the teams made great signings and strengthened their squads. In the last few seasons, we saw that to become champions you needed to reach close to 100 points, I think the situation this season is going to be different. Because a lot of players didn’t have any rest during the summer, I think the competition is going to be more balanced, all the games are going to be difficult, we will have to work really hard to finish the season on top of the league.”
More than 90 points have been required in each of the past four campaigns, with the last three champions hitting tallies of 100, 98, and 99 points respectively. However, both City and Liverpool have already dropped five points in a chaotic opening few weeks, with Bernardo believing that trend will mean a much lower points tally this time around.
