#PremierLeagueStories – #BrendanRodgers Gives Report Card of his Own Team’s Perfomance of the season #LCFC

Brendan Rodgers
According to Leicester City manager, he and his squad sat down before the start of the campaign to discuss their targets, and while those focused on the Premier League were achieved, those for the cups were not. Leicester City set themselves the objective of qualifying for European football, and of scoring 65 goals in the league, both of which were ticked off, but they also targeted reaching the finals of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, with Rodgers’ men falling short in both competitions.
Brendan Rodgers said “The six targets we had, two of those was to get to domestic finals, one was a semi-final, one was quarter-final, so we just fell short in those but all of the other performance goals, in terms of reaching European football, improving our goalscoring… I mentioned goalscoring at the beginning of the season, because for us to be in contention with having European football – I think we scored 51 goals last year – I felt we needed to get 65 plus goals to be in contention. We got 67. Then it was in terms of our defensive record, and also maximising availability of players. We needed to have players available and it’s really the last little period of the season where those guys picked up unfortunate injuries, from Ricardo [Pereira] in that Villa game through to James [Maddison] and Ben [Chilwell]. Apart from those two (failing to reach the finals), the other goals we’ve achieved. Getting into the Champions League wasn’t really something we spoke about at the beginning of the season because naturally, where the club had been these last few seasons, we wanted to try step by step to arrive there.”
