#PremierLeagueStories – #BrendanRodgers Gives Insight into #LuizSuarez’s time under him at Liverpool #LFC

Brendan Rodgers

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has detailed the impression Luis Suarez left on him during his first days as a manager. After Rodgers left Swansea City in 2012 he took over the Liverpool job from Kenny Dalglish where Suarez had already arrived 18 months earlier. The Uruguayan forward went on to enjoy his best Liverpool spell under Rodgers, scoring 53 Premier League goals in two seasons. Rodgers has explained how Suarez was a pleasure to work with, in both his ability coupled his dedication, commitment and work ethic – while also being a “hard man”.

Brendan Rodgers said “From the very first days, he was absolutely amazing, This guy was so respectful, he trained every day, he is a warrior, people talk about hard men, centre-halves and midfield players. He was a hard man but he was a striker. Tough, played through injury, just passion for football. He was tactically bright and he gave is all. For me, in the two seasons, he scored 30+ goals. When the opportunity came for him to leave, we all recognised it was time for him to move on. The sadness of it was he was a world-class player. Working with him at that level gave me great experience of dealing with that type of player. Knowing the edge they have, knowing the passion they have, the unswerving belief they have, not just in their own ability but their belief to be better.”
