Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff put in an excellent performance against AFC Bournemouth in the number 10 role. The midfielder had to be taken off after half an hour because of a hamstring injury concern but after the match, he spoke about playing in an advanced role in the last few days. It was only two years ago, but Longstaff was then destined to be sent to League One Portsmouth to build on his experience before Rafa Benitez blocked the deal as he wanted him to remain with the senior side.

Sean Longstaff said “It gives me a chance to run around a little and get into positions. I can get in more advanced positions to score a few goals. But I have played there since I was younger and I really enjoy it. It’s a bit of a change from being deeper. It gives you a bit more freedom and you are willing to try a few more things. That was the disappointing thing (getting injured). It’s not great to have to go off with any muscle injury. It came at a horrible time. But at least I have scored and played a part in the game, Miggy (Miguel Almiron) also came on and scored.”
