West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere insists he has “unfinished business” with the Hammers and wants to prove a point if and when he can return. Wilshere missed most of last season with an ankle injury and most of this season with a groin problem, which the midfielder says he has now recovered from and will be fully fit and raring to go if and when the Premier League does return.

Wilshere’s second season in east London has been much like his first, injury disrupted. Having started the first two games of the season having had a strong pre-season, he’s made just four further appearances for the Hammers this campaign. He has yet to feature since David Moyes replaced Manuel Pellegrini as manager and it’s just 16 appearances in his 18 months at the club since joining from Arsenal on a free transfer.

Jack Wilshere said “I still feel like I’ve got unfinished business at West Ham. It’s not worked out how I wanted it to and I want to change that. I don’t want to, when I’m done at West Ham, I don’t want West Ham fans to think: ‘that was a waste of time. I want to show them what I can do and when you get your opportunity you have to take it and that is my opportunity and show the manager what I can do. Again, we’ve got a new manager who has not seen me play yet, not seen me on the training field and it’s like a fresh start for me and I’m looking forward to it.”

Wilshere is out of contract at the end of next season in east London having penned a three-year, £100,000 a week deal when he left the Gunners as a free agent, released by their former manager Unai Emery. He will have competition for a place in the team with Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini and January recruit Tomas Soucek all competing for places in the midfield alongside Mark Noble and Declan Rice.
