Tottenham defender Kyle Walker-Peters will spend the rest of the season on loan at Southampton. Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said the club were on the lookout for full-backs at the start of the January transfer window. Walker-Peters has long been linked with a move to St Mary’s and it is understood the Spurs defender is now set to join on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
Kyle Walker-Peters said “I’m looking to use this opportunity to improve as a football player, but most importantly win games here, and show the manager he made the right decision in bringing me here, and also show the fans that. I’m just grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given by the manager and the club. I come here looking to help the club improve and improve myself. I just want to win as many games as possible and enjoy playing football.”
Walker-Peters’ chances have been few and far between this year as José Mourinho has locked onto Serge Aurier as his preferred option. Surprisingly, Japhet Tanganga has burst onto the scene in the last month and shown himself to be more than serviceable on the back line, giving Mourinho some leeway in the search for a true right fullback to compete with Aurier.
Southampton boss Hasenhuttl has welcomed FA Cup replay with Tottenham Spurs even if that means playing as away team at white hart lane stadium.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said “It was a good game. A lot of chances for us and for them. I think in the end we came close to winning. Danny Ings was a little bit unlucky today but was always dangerous in the box. He’s fantastic. Also the subs did a good job today, all three that came on. That’s the reason why we need every player. We changed the shape also. In the cup it’s all or nothing. We had a lot of chances in the end, the only pity is that we have to have a replay. I would have liked to have a decision today, either winning or losing. There are so many games in England, I don’t understand. But this is the rule and we have to accept that. For the players this isn’t easy, because they don’t get much time off. It’s frustrating, but we are motivated to go to the next round.”
Spurs looked on their way into the fifth round just before the hour, when Son Heung-min crowned a superb break with a low finish from the excellent Giovani lo Celso’s pass. But Sofiane Boufal’s late equaliser gave Southampton a fully-deserved FA Cup fourth-round replay.
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has dismissed speculation linking Che Adams with a move away from the club this month in the wake of Leeds’ interest. Che Adams is yet to register a goal in 21 appearances for Saints since moving to St Mary’s from Birmingham City for £15m last summer. Che Adams scored 22 goals in 46 league games for the Blues in the 2018/19 season. Leeds United lie second in the Championship table, four points clear of the play-off places, as they bid to return to the top flight for the first time in 16 years.
Ralph Hasenhuttl said. “I need every player in my squad and this is what I always tell them, so for us there is no option because we need every player, I trust every player,” he said. I don’t want to let anybody go. Nobody was is in my office and wanted to leave us. Also, we don’t have to sell any players.”
Ralph Hasenhuttl has reiterated his stance that he has no intention of letting any of his players leave in January when addressing the media on Thursday.
