Burnley boss Sean Dyche has challenged his side to use the momentum of their win at Manchester United. The Clarets followed up a home victory over high-flying Leicester with a first win at Old Trafford since 1962 on Wednesday night.
Sean Dyche said “They were certainly very important results and important performances, particularly that one at Manchester United. They are in a different period at the moment, but it is still winning at Old Trafford. I believe in all the players here and we put teams out that we think can win games. You have got to deliver.”
Having given themselves a bit of breathing space in the continued battle for Premier League stability, Dyche hopes the squad can focus again on another positive display.
Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart has issued a “come and get me” plea live on BBC TV. The 32-year-old was a pundit as boyhood club Shrewsbury Town staged a remarkable comeback to draw 2-2 with Liverpool and take their FA Cup fourth round tie to a replay. Hart had 24 hours earlier made just his third Clarets appearance of the season, all in cup competitions, as Sean Dyche’s side went out with a 2-1 defeat against Norwich.
Joe Hart said “Awful. You just have to get on with it. Football owes you nothing. I was speaking to Alan (Shearer) before and it is really fun on the way up. But when you get yourself in a position where you are not doing what you believe you can do or what you want to do it is frustrating. With Adrian at Liverpool, they might play 60 games so it’s a different No.2 to what I’m doing.”
When fellow pundit Shearer pressed him about whether he wanted to “get out and play” Hart replied “definitely”. Lineker then quipped “he’s available folks” with Hart then doing a tongue-in-cheek double thumbs up the cameras.
Burnley defender James Tarkowski has issued a statement to his players to not dwell on FA Cup exit. The Clarets’ defender refused to let a 2-1 defeat at Turf Moor take the gloss off a fabulous week which brought Sean Dyche’s men six points in their bid to stay in the top flight. Burnley beat Leicester City and then Manchester United to end a four-match losing run in the Premier League but were denied a hat-trick of victories by the relegation-threatened Canaries.
James Tarkowski said “We put a strong team out, so it wasn’t like we were trying to get out the cup. We wanted a good cup run so it’s a shame. I thought we did okay at times. It was just disappointing at the start of the second half to give them two goals and then it’s always hard to get back into it. Erik has got a great strike on him. He scores plenty in training and he’s scored a couple in the FA Cup now. It’s a shame we couldn’t just nick one more and forced a replay but, as we all know, the Premier League is the most important thing for us.”
Burnley next play Arsenal at Turf Moore and hope to leave aside their cup exit and continue with their rich league form.
