Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says his side need to “turn all energies against the world outside” as they battle against relegation. The Cherries are 19th in the Premier League after a 1-0 defeat at bottom club Norwich City on Saturday.
Eddie Howe said “We have to become very internal. We have to use all the negativity around us in a positive way to show we’re still fighting and we can do it.Fighting back collectively with everyone connected with the club that wants us to do well, that’s really what we have to focus on now and turn all energies against the world outside. It’s not always evident on the pitch because human psychology is sometimes difficult to predict – confidence affects you in different ways. But I can assure everybody the players care deeply, they’re really hurting at the moment and they want to come out of this spell as quickly as possible”
Bournemouth have lost 10 of their past 12 league games and are sitting at three points from safety. They are heading into Tuesday’s home game with Brighton and need a turnaround in their relegation form quickly.
Eddie Howe believes the use of the pitch side monitor allows the referee to make a more ‘rational decision’ after Bournemouth lost 1-0 at Norwich.
When asked whether the referee making the decision in that way was an improvement on the VAR handling the call, Cherries boss Eddie Howe said “I think it gives him the chance possibly to make a more rational decision, because when someone else is making it, I think there is a reluctance to say the referee is wrong and to overrule him either one way or another. This will be easier because it’s the guy who has made the decision actually making that call”
Referee in the game between Bournemouth and Norwich City – Paul Tierney dismissed Bournemouth’s Steve Cook and then, after the break, consulted his monitor before changing Ben Godfrey’s yellow card to red, becoming the first official to do so in the Premier League. Cook was sent off when he palmed Ondrej Duda’s effort onto a post, with Teemu Pukki scoring from the penalty spot.
