Jurgen Klopp hails Joel Matip as ‘incredible piece of business’
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hailed Joel Matip as “one of the best, incredible pieces of business we’ve done”. Matip joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Schalke in the summer of 2016, and will be staying until 2024 after agreeing a new long-term deal this week .The 28-year-old’s stock has soared over the past nine months, with the centre-half having nailed down an automatic starting place to develop a commanding partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the back.
Klopp could not hide his delight at contract signing and said “Joel’s journey at Liverpool is one I love and I am absolutely delighted he has shown his commitment to us by signing this new long-term contract. As the team has evolved and become better, so too has Joel. I said earlier this year that signing a player of his quality is one of the best, incredible pieces of business we’ve done since I started here – and I think now that’s something everyone can see.I knew what he was capable of from seeing him up close in the Bundesliga and we were certain he could bring that performance level to us.”
Joel has been operating as a world-class centre-half throughout this year and has formed a strong backbone of Liverpool’s defense. A successful team and relationship between players and managers is best reflected by the willingness of players willing to extend contracts. Liverpool out of all teams at this point seems to be high on that and premier league fans hopes the reds are finally ready to get their maiden premier league title.

Bukayo Saka no longer just youth prospect
Bukayo Saka is one of many Arsenal academy graduates breaking into the first team. But is time to start thinking of the 18-year-old as more than just a young prospect? Is he now a full-time first-team player? The transition from youth prospect to fully-fledged, first-team contributor is an extremely difficult one. This season, Arsenal are beginning to see the shoots of Bukayo Saka as a first-team star. The winger may only be 18 years of age, but he made his first start in the Europa League, scored a terrific goal, assisted another, and was subsequently rewarded with three successive starts in the Premier League, including in a major contest away at Old Trafford. It might be a little soon to call Saka a fully-fledged first-team player. Three league starts is not the largest sample size, after all, and he has benefitted from the absence of Alexandre Lacazette through injury. But given Unai Emery’s management of Saka in recent weeks, resting him during lesser matches in the EFL Cup and Europa League and substituting Nicolas Pepe ahead of him, it seems as though he is now seen as a genuine starting option.
When English Premier League started in 1992, there were famous class of 92 who gave Manchester United a victory lap for many years and decade. Chelsea’s young players included John Terry , Hudson Odoi, Tammy Abraham. Not only club but the entire league has gained benefits from youth prospects. Leicester City prepared for emotional day
Leicester City will produce a performance in Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s image as the club pays tribute to their late chairman on Saturday afternoon. City are preparing for an emotional day against Burnley at the King Power Stadium with the club commemorating the life of their former owner, who died in a tragic helicopter crash a year ago this month.
Although emotions will be high, City manager Brendan Rodgers knows his players will perform. He said “I talked about it [with the players] on Thursday morning. There will be a lot of emotion on and off the pitch over these next five games. We will be very much together, on and off the field and we’ll take each game as it comes.No [it’s not going to be an easy game]. It’s something that having come into here I’ve been able to understand and recognise what an important figure he was. Everyone will look from the outside at the financial input into the club, but the feeling that he gave people, players and staff, you cannot buy that. He was close to many people at the club. The players had a real affinity with him and still do.”
The year has gone so fast but the painful memory of helicopter clash still remains with Premier League fans. In era where money, quick achievements and owner’s non involvement in the club activities, very few owners take pride in their assets as the Leicester City owners especially late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. Could Burnley upset Leicester City with a player in transfer tussle
Burnley’s James Tarkowski will arrive at the King Power Stadium in fine form on Saturday. Tarkowski is likely to start for the Clarets on Saturday and he looked excited with upcoming fixture again Leicester City.
Tarkowski said “Clarets have made a strong start, only losing to Liverpool and Arsenal. They are still waiting for a first win on the road but have proven hard to beat away from home with the resilience that Sean Dyche has made a trademark at Turf Moor on show. After a start that yielded just 12 points from 19 games last time around, Burnley supporters should be more than satisfied with the early showing this time around.Burnley are well aware of the threat Jamie Vardy targets but James Maddison could be the key man for Leicester with his ability to play in between the lines, particularly if Jack Cork isn’t fit enough to feature.”
For knowledge of Premier League fans, the England centre-back James Tarkowski was subject to a £30m bid from City after they sold Harry Maguire to Manchester United for £80m. Burnley wanted more than £40m and Leicester City opted to stick with their current options, with Caglar Soyuncu coming to the fore. Neal Maupay went from ‘super-sub’ to Brighton’s main man
Neal Maupay’s career was going well in France but he was eager for a crack at English football. The striker arrived at Brentford in 2017 from Saint-Étienne, following a successful loan season at French Ligue One side Brest. Aston Villa manager Dean Smith, who was in charge at Brentford at the time, brought Maupay to English football for a reported fee of £1.6m – he required little time to adapt to the Championship. Smith’s team were a lively attacking force and Maupay – who was mainly used from the bench – thrived on the chances created and was considered the best “super-sub of the Championship.”
Smith, his first manager in English football, had moved on to Villa, where he steered them into the Premier League. Because of those close links, Villa Park seemed a likely destination for the 23-year-old. Maupay wanted Premier League football but as a striker he was equally determined to sign for a team with an attacking style. Smith’s Villa ticked that box but so too did Graham Potter’s Brighton, and it was the Seagulls who parted with £16m to sign him. Maupay has three goals from nine appearances so far but the early season has also brought much change in the striking department at Albion.
There are few players, enjoying life yet deciding to leave the comfort and come to physicality and new pastures in English Premier League. Premier League fans cannot forget one recent name – Zlatan. While Neal may be a long way to be compared to the legendary striker, he certainly has right mentorship and guidance to be one in future.
