Manchester United’s senior players ‘unconvinced’ by coach Kieran McKenna

A number of Manchester United’s senior players are reportedly ‘unconvinced’ by first team coach Kieran McKenna after the club’s dreadful start to the season.  McKenna has taken charge of training sessions since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the managerial job. There is discontent among the group, particularly in the attacking department with United struggling desperately to score goals.  Certain members of the squad feel McKenna and the coaching staff have not worked enough on creating new patterns and options for play in the final third.

We know Ole is currently looking for miracles and some answers to his problems at the club. Grabbing the problems by scruff of its neck and fixing them could help him immensely.

Shkodran Mustafi says criticism has become ‘irrational’

Shkodran Mustafi has opened up on his troubled time at Arsenal, admitting that he has become a target for the club’s fans, and said he would consider a move to the Bundesliga. He was dismayed by some of the criticism that had come from ex-Arsenal players and in particular Emmanuel Petit. “Petit’s comments [‘Mustafi is the king of blunders’] made him very angry. It is one thing to be criticised by fans or media but it is something completely different when it comes from a former player, who knows how difficult it can be on the pitch. I would expect such a player to be a bit more sensible and realise what that kind of criticism can lead to.”

Mustafi decided to stay at Arsenal despite the manager, Unai Emery, making it quite clear he was not part of his plans for the upcoming season.

Premier League clubs push for VAR changes amid discontent from fans in stadiums

At present, VAR has overturned 15 decisions in the first eight rounds of the Premier League season.VAR incidents are only displayed to supporters at matches if the referees initial decision has been overturned, leaving many a fan confused as to what has actually occurred, or even if a check is happening. Meanwhile, viewers at home are able to see the checks taking place and, via the commentators, have the discussions between officials relayed.

Quote from stadium attendees – “We paid £30, £40, £50 or £60 to watch the game, ‘Look, I don’t know what’s going on’. I have no idea why that goal is disallowed, I can guess, and I’m trying to work it out. But half of us guess it was a foul on the goalkeeper, the other half thought it was offside. That’s not good.” Referees have been encouraged to allow the officials at Stockley Park to advise on decisions instead of using the pitch-side review screen, which would give fans further indication something was being looked at

Further analysis of the use of VAR is being undertaken before Premier League executives convene again during the November international break in order to discuss how best to improve its use, and protect fans in stadiums.

West Ham hand Aaron Cresswell new contract

Aaron Cresswell has signed a new contract to stay at West Ham until 2023. The former England left back has joined Manuel Lanzini, Arthur Masuaku and Robert Snodgrass in committing his long-term future to the club. Cresswell, who scored a spectacular free-kick against Manchester United previous month, is the club’s third longest-serving player. Cresswell, who had just under two years left on his previous deal, has three caps for his country and has made 184 appearances for the Hammers since he joined them from Ipswich for just over £2m in 2014.

The 29-year-old, once a transfer target for Liverpool, said: “I’ve been here for six years and I’ve loved every minute of it.

Miguel Almiron will star at Newcastle as soon as he hits first goal

Miguel Almiron will be a star at St James’ Park as soon as he scores, according to the Atlanta boss Darren Eales who sold him for £21m. “It took Migie a little bit of time to find his feet when he made the move from Paraguay to the Argentinian league and the same with us in our first MLS season,” said Eales at the Leaders in Sport Summit.

Almiron, who was surrounded by Spanish speakers in Atlanta, was bought by Rafa Benitez last season and played with Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon. Now with Steve Bruce he is trying to form new partnerships with new record signing Joelinton and Allan-Saint Maximin.
