Coventry manager Bobby Gould dramatically resigned after a five-goal thrashing, led by England star Les Ferdinand. Ferdinand put rangers ahead after 15 minutes and they went two up on the half-hour mark through Bradley Allen.

They after three minutes of injury time in the first half, Allen scored again – a soft goal which followed a defensive mix up. Andrew Impey made it four 15 minutes from time before Coventry scored a consolation goal through Ndlovu. But two minutes from time Ferdinand struck again.
