Steve McMahon hit out at the tackle by Vinnie Jones which caused a major row at Selhurst Park. Jones’ Wimbledon team swept aside an injury-hit Manchester City 1-0 with a goal from Robbie Earle – a result which moved the south London club up to fifth in the table. But it was the last-minute tackle from Jones, which earned him a booking but could have easily resulted in a sending off, that infuriated City players. The victim, McMahon reacted angrily along with many of his teammates.
Steve McMahon said “It was scandalous, disgraceful. But that’s what he plays like. I try to not let it bother me. The referee booked him so that is the end of it.”
Joe Kinnear said “Look who the tackle was on. I don’t think there is any love lost between the two players. Thankfully it was not that serious. They are both very competitive players.”
