For a club that was facing financial difficulties at the start of the decade, Queens Park Rangers did a great job in finishing the inaugural premier league season in fifth place and ahead of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea as the best club from London. Repeating this feat would have been great but for Rangers, the biggest priority going into the 1993-94 season was to ensure that their most prized assets, Manager Gerry Francis, Striker Les Ferdinand and Midfielder Andy Sinton stayed with the club.

Even though Sinton left for Sheffield Wednesday for over £3 million, QPR managed to hold on to the other two. Their biggest signing was a £0.8 million defender, Steve Yates from Bristol. Gerry Francis had his task cut out going into the new season to keep the squad together and repeat the impressive results they achieved the season earlier.
