After having a fairy tale season in 1991 where Leeds United won the title as a promoted team right at the end, everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong for them in the following season. Manager losing the dressing room, Eric Cantona leaving for Manchester United, out of Europe and cup competitions early and ending the season at a disappointing 17th position.

Leeds brought in Brian Deane from Sheffield United for £4 million along with David O’Leary from Arsenal. David Batty for Blackburn, David Rocastle for Manchester City and David Kerslake for Tottenham were the first team player that left in the summer.
