Wimbledon 1 – Manchester United 2 – United’s big day ruined as Vinnie Jones attacked by a fan

What should have been a good-natured celebration of Manchester United winning the league after 26 years turned sour as one pitch invader attacked and hit Vinnie Jones and the incident which prevented Manchester United from parading the trophy before 20000 of their supporters

Jones was struck as the players left the pitch and the man was immediately arrested. United was hoping to do a lap of honour but around 200 supporters invaded the pitch and Alex Ferguson was forced to lead his team back to the safety of dressing room.

Manchester United had scored their two goals when Paul Ince scored in the 62nd minute and Bryan Robson scored his first goal of the season seven minutes later. Dean Holdsworth pulled one back for the home side late on.

Coventry 3 Leeds 3 – The Sky Blues Survive a late surge to secure premier league future

The sky blues needed a minimum of one point to ensure that there wasn’t even an outside chance of getting relegated. And they seemed to be coasting home when they were 3-1 up until Leeds scored twice in the last two minutes to put the cat amongst the pigeons for the few seconds.

Peter Ndlovu set up goals for John Williams and Mick Quinn with Leeds’ Rod Wallace scoring in between. Ndlovu made it 3-1 in the second half but Wallace headed in before punishing once again when Jonathan Gould miscued the clearance.

QPR 2 Aston Villa 1 – Villa’s season fell flat at the end of a remarkable season

One final chapter was added to Aston Villa’s end of season nightmare at Loftus Road as the West London side ran out winners on the day. It was a dramatic fall for the Midlands side who looked set to lift the title in March but had only picked up 12 of the last 30 points that season with only three wins.

Just like their season, Villa was ahead in the game up till the 67th minute thanks to a Tony Daley goal but goals from Les Ferdinand and Bradley Allen’s deflected effort made sure all three points went to Rangers as they finished the season as the best team from London.
