Sheffield Wednesday 1 – Arsenal 0 – The Owls Beat Gunners in a prelude to FA Cup Final

Sheffield Wednesday beat Arsenal by a solitary goal from Mark Bright in what was the start of a huge few days for both the teams. They were going to face each other a week later in the FA cup final as well. It was interesting considering that both the teams had already met each other in the league cup final that year which the Gunners had won.

But Wednesday showed that day that they had it in them to shut down the Arsenal attack and the win would have given them huge confidence. But the biggest worry for their manager Trevor Francis was the fitness of his star striker Paul Warhurst who had broken in his wrist in training and there wasn’t any clarification from FA whether he could play with a lightweight cast for the FA cup final.

Trevor Francis said “Although we have checked with one referee who says it will be all right, we’ve still got to see what the Cup final referee will say. He has a heavy plaster on his hand at the moment and won’t play the remaining premier league matches against QPR and Blackburn.”
