QPR had slapped a massive £10 million fee on England stars Andy Sinton and Les Ferdinand. Chairman Richard Thompson had pledged that Rangers would do everything to make sure that they also hang on their much-coveted manager Gerry Francis. Sinton had been linked to a move to Arsenal whereas England striker Ferdinand was a target for a lot of clubs.

Richard Thompson said “People will have to pay £3 million for Sinton and £7 million for Ferdinand. There are market prices, look at the prices for which Paul Gascoigne and David Platt went for. We also don’t want to lose our manager – we are in a good financial position. We never know what happens if a big club comes in with an offer.”
