Tottenham Hotspur 4 Oldham Athletic – Sheringham Double Sinked Oldham
Relegation-threatened Oldham opened the scoring at White Hart Lane but the home side ran out comfortable winners with a great second-half display, which saw them score four goals – two of them by Teddy Sheringham from penalties.
Oldham took the lead when Beckford nipped in the goal at the near post to head his second goal since leaving Norwich in a £500000 deal a month earlier. Oldham had the chance to extend their lead but Tottenham captain Mabbutt did well to intercept a cross from Henry to allow the visitors to double the lead. Sheringham equalised in the 56th minute with a penalty before Anderton gave the home side lead. The Manchester-based side fell apart late on as Sheringham scored another one along with Andy Turner to give Spurs a comfortable win.
Leeds United 0 Crystal Palace 0 – Stalemate at Elland Road
In a dull encounter at Elland Road, both sides nudged closer to premier league safety as the points were shared. In a match that was lacking in quality, Leeds failed to produce the fine form which had been their hallmark, while Palace seemed content to soak up the pressure and escape with a draw.
The best goal scoring opportunity of the game came to Palace when Geoff Thomas was put through by Chris Coleman in the sixth minute. But with just a keeper to beat from 12 yards out, Thomas wasted the chance.
There were also many chances for Chris Armstrong off Palace as well Lee Chapman and Jamie Forrester of Leeds but no one could break the deadlock in this dour encounter.
Liverpool 4 – Coventry 0 Sweet Revenge for the Reds as Walters scored a hat trick
Mark Walters collected the match ball with a hat trick as Liverpool sank Coventry without trace at Anfield. Much travelled Walters produced marvellous finishing power to make a mockery of his haul of just six league goals that season. Liverpool got a sweet revenge against a side that hammered them 5-1 at Highfield back in December 1992.
Mick Quinn went close twice for Coventry but couldn’t finish the chances where as the gaps began to open up in Coventry defense, Liverpool took the full advantage to secure a comfortable win for Graeme Souness’ men.
