Nottingham Forest 1 Blackburn Rovers 3 – Forest Doomed to go down with another defeat

Nottingham Forest had just six games left to preserve their premier league position. Brian Clough’s bottom of the table side slumped deeper into relegation trouble with a 3-1 defeat by Blackburn Rovers at the City Ground, their 10th home reverse in the league that season.

Forest’s next four games are all against London clubs with a visit to QPR that week followed by a home clash against Tottenham and then trips to Wimbledon and Arsenal. But with Forest desperate for points, their track record against clubs from the capital was not encouraging.

They conceded the first goal in the match in the 7th minute, Nigel Clough did put them on parity just after the half time but quick goals from Stuart Ripley and Mike Newell put the game beyond doubt.

Oldham 1 Sheffield Wednesday 1 – Crucial Point for the latics in the fight to stay up

As England manager Graham Taylor sat in the stands to watch some of his young three lions perform Oldham earned a crucial draw to add another point to their tally and survive in the premier league.

The latics with one defeat in seven games then were still third from bottom after the match but they were hoping to catch Wednesday off guard after their FA Cup semifinal triumph over their city neighbours Sheffield United. Oldham carved out a deserved 1-0 half time lead via Neil Pointon’s goal but they lost their way in the second half before Watson equalized in the 65th minute.
