Blackburn 4 Liverpool 1 – King Kenny Punished his Old Side as Blackburn Kept European Hopes Alive

Blackburn Rovers kept themselves very much in contention for a place in Europe for the upcoming season with a four-star display. They totally destroyed Liverpool that had little to offer depending on a late goal from Ian Rush for some consolation.
The home side went in front in the 13th minute via Newell and then again in the 25th minute through Kevin Moran. They went 3-0 up just before the half time when the debutant Kevin Gallacher got on the score sheet. Wilcox scored in the 65th minute to take Rovers 4-0 up before Rush scored late in the match.

Coventry 2 Southampton 0 – Mighty Mick the difference as Coventry ran out winners

Mick Quinn grabbed an early goal and laid on another for John Williams 10 minutes from time to give Convetry the points against Southampton. Quinn, who scored both Convetry’s goals in the 2-2 draw at the Dell in December, opened the scoring from the spot in the 6th minute.

Coventry made certain of the three points after 80 minutes when Williams raced across the field to supply Peter Ndlovu with a pass. He then followed on into the penalty area to force the ball home when Quinn turned it back at the far post.

Oldham 6 Wimbledon 2 – Oldham fired six past Dons to sink Sheffield United in bottom three

Six hitters Oldham dealt Wembley losers Sheffield United another shattering blow as they dropped to the bottom three in the league, only two hours after losing FA cup semifinals to their arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

It was Oldham’s best win of the season and worrying for their trap door teams. Things couldn’t have worked out much better for rock bottom team, as Middlesborough crashed to a 4-0 loss against Chelsea as well.

Crystal Palace 1 QPR 1 – Palace Fight on with a crucial point against Rangers

Crystal Palace picked up another valuable point in their premier league survival fight against QPR. Rangers showed the better touch in the first half with Andrew Impey and Andy Sinton causing problems on the flank.

Palace’s best chance of the first half came thanks to Rangers. They got themselves into a terrible mess and Darren Peacock was only able to the ball on the line because Paul Williams’ shot was so weak. Palace finally got in terms in the 62nd minute, though the equaliser also needed Ranger’s help. Simon Rodgers free-kick swung into the goalmouth and David Beardsley turned the ball into his own net.
