Manchester United 1 – 1 Aston Villa

Mark Hughes hauled Manchester United back from the brink of Championship disaster against Rivals Aston Villa. The Welsh marksman grabbed a 58th-minute equalizer after Steve Staunton’s spectacular five minutes earlier that had threatened a smash and grab of all three priceless premier league points by former boss Ron Atkinson on his Old Trafford return.

The only winners from this match were Norwich who had moved within two points behind the leaders after winning their match against Oldham a day earlier. It was a big day for another former Manchester United employee Mark Bosnich who had a super display between the goals for Villa to give his team a point.

Mark Bosnich said “I couldn’t have imagined a year ago that I would be back at Old Trafford playing for another team and playing so well.”
