Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson was set to offer Bryan Robson another one year contract and ask the Old Trafford legend to postpone his move into the management game. Robson was on the verge of a first-team recall for their game against Oldham after a series of injury problems which left him on the sidelines for the best part of that season.
Several clubs had already indicated their interest in appointing Robson as their manager the most recent name being Sunderland.
Alex Ferguson said “Memories are short. It is easy to forget the contribution Robbo has made. But when you go through the videos you are reminded of the colossal influence he has had on the side and you want him to be around again.”
