Paul Wilkinson’s 11th goal of the season gave Middlesborough a survival lifeline at Ipswich Town. It was only the second away win of the season for Boro and it was due in no small part for their returning defender Alan Kernaghan. He had been out of action for four months and had publicly criticised his manager for not giving other players a chance.

But he led the defence brilliantly on the night and snuffed out any chances that came to Ipswich to give full three points to the Teeside club.
