Wimbledon owner Sam Hammam accused the football association of stoking the fires of revolution after they insisted hardman Vinnie Jones must pay a record £20000 fine. Angry Hammam berated the FA accusing them of abusing their power and claimed there would be a major backlash from the premier league clubs enraged by the scale of punishment meted out to Jones who claimed he was “scared” by his ordeal.

Apart from the fine, Jones was given a six-month playing ban when finding guilty of misconduct by the FA. That ban would increase to three years if Jones would be involved in another breach of the rules.

Vinnie Jones said “I learned my lesson. I will pay the fine tomorrow although I’ll be shaking when I sign the cheque.”
