Graeme Souness paid tribute to Liverpool’s fans and assured them that the Reds were spending waking moment trying to end their predicament. The Anfield giants were set to cross the 500000 attendance barrier for home league matches when Ipswich would visit Anfield that week. Despite their disappointing campaign, Liverpool had attracted 473316 fans to their 13 home matches, with the half a million milestone within reach.

Graeme Souness said “No matter how the fans feel, I can assure them from the players that we think about the position we’re in until the moment we fall asleep at night. I feel we’re in a transitional period. I was under no illusions that this wasn’t going to be an easy job, and I’m finding out it’s a hard job.”
