Eric Cantona, once Elland Road’s favorite Frenchman, may have to run a gauntlet of hate when he would return to Leeds with Manchester United for their upcoming premier league clash. The controversial Cantona, whose late winner against Sheffield United a week earlier put Alex Ferguson’s team back on top of the premier league, became a Leeds idol the previous season as he played a key role in pipping their Old Trafford rivals to the title.
Cantona had since then tried to diffuse the situation by writing an open letter to Leeds fans where he said he would always remember his time at Leeds with affection and would wish all their supporters well but he also knew that it would not change the reception he would get upon his return to his old stomping ground.
