Norwich failed to score for their fifth successive match on a Hillsborough afternoon that may prove a turning point in the championship. After leading the league since the early days of December, now the Canaries were third on goal difference behind Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Mark Robins, the 12 goal, £800000 capture from Old Trafford was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured ankle after 37 minutes when he fell awkwardly. Nigel Worthington, the full back managed to score the only goal of the game.
