Unhappy Everton manager Howard Kendall walked off at half time deep in conversation with the official, who failed to show goalkeeper Nigel Martyn a red card after he chopped down Beardsley in the 41st minute. But two second-half goals gave all three points to ease some pressure on the Merseyside outfit. The physical effort required in the coca-cola cup match against Chelsea appeared to have taken a toll on the Palace side as their energy levels dropped significantly in the second half of that game
