Former Newcastle United striker who was then on loan at Coventry City was the one Brian Clough would be worried about the most going into his side’s clash at Highfield Road. Clough was ready to bid for Quinn in order to boost his Forest side but did not make a move before Kevin Keegan allowed Quinn to move to Coventry.

The Scouser hit 10 goals in the first six matches for Coventry and after that Coventry was never going to allow him to go back to Newcastle. Now Clough’s Forest was facing the prospect of being the receiving end of Quinn’s goals as they were already five points adrift at the foot of the table. Clough did have a good record at Convetry though with only one defeat while playing at their ground in previous eight seasons.
