#mustread #PremierLeagueStories on Dec 24 1992 – “Old Boys” back in town with #Southampton to punish #Chelsea

Kerry Dixon Chelsea

Southampton’s Kerry Dixon and Ken Monkou were the “old boys” going back as Saints to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with Blues skipper Andy Townsend facing one of his former clubs and desperate to further fuel the Londoners’ championship push. Chelsea’s surge had slowed down with two successive draws and manager Ian Porterfield had an additional worry, with top scorer Mick Harford struggling with a calf strain. Whereas Russian goalkeeper Dimitri Kharin’s work permit was yet to be in place, so he was unlikely to be in contention to start.
