Everton chairman Dr. David Marsh called for a united front at Goodison Park as the club strived to edge away from the top flight danger zone. Dr. Marsh once again reiterated the cold, hard fact of life that cash throughout the Premier league was extremely tight with Everton, in tandem with a host of clubs, were feeling the pinch of the recession. It was clear that the club had to sell first in order to buy more players but despite one-third of the season gone, the toffees were not to press the panic button.

Trevor Francis, the Sheffield Wednesday manager believed that Kenny Dalglish’s Blackburn Rovers could become the first side to win the premier league. The two sides played out a goalless draw a few days ago and Francis said “When a team is top at this stage, people inevitably question whether they can stay there. I feel Rovers are there on merit and there is no reason why they shouldn’t win the title.”
